Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts
Ingredients:
1 lb (about 450g) Brussels Sprouts
4-6 Slices of Bacon (nitrate/nitrite-free)
2-3 Tbsp Maple Syrup
Salt and Black Pepper, to taste
Cooking Oil (ie., Ghee or Avocado Oil)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Brussels Sprouts:
Start by trimming the Brussels sprouts. Cut off the tough ends, remove any yellow or wilted leaves, and then slice them in half.
2. Cook the Bacon:
Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the bacon to the skillet.
Cook the bacon until it becomes crispy and golden brown, stirring occasionally. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
Once the bacon is cooked, use a slotted spoon to transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease.
Allow it to cool before crumbling the bacon into small pieces. Set the cooked bacon aside.
3. Sauté the Brussels Sprouts:
In the same skillet with the remaining bacon drippings, add the halved Brussels sprouts.
Season with a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
4. Drizzle with Maple Syrup:
Sauté the Brussels sprouts until they become tender and slightly caramelized, which should take about 10-12 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
Once the Brussels sprouts are cooked to your desired tenderness, drizzle them with maple syrup. The amount of maple syrup will depend on your preference for sweetness. Start with a couple of tablespoons and adjust to taste.
Continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the Brussels sprouts to absorb the delicious maple flavor and develop a slight glaze.
5. Combine with Bacon and Serve:
Add the crispy bacon bits back to the skillet with the sautéed Brussels sprouts.
Toss everything together to combine the flavors.
Transfer the Maple Bacon Brussels Sprouts to a serving dish.
Optionally, season with an extra pinch of salt and pepper if needed. Serve hot as a delicious side to complement your main course. Enjoy!
