Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (about 450g) Brussels Sprouts

  • 4-6 Slices of Bacon (nitrate/nitrite-free)

  • 2-3 Tbsp Maple Syrup

  • Salt and Black Pepper, to taste

  • Cooking Oil (ie., Ghee or Avocado Oil)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Brussels Sprouts:

  • Start by trimming the Brussels sprouts. Cut off the tough ends, remove any yellow or wilted leaves, and then slice them in half.

2. Cook the Bacon:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat.

  • Add the bacon to the skillet.

  • Cook the bacon until it becomes crispy and golden brown, stirring occasionally. This should take about 5-7 minutes.

  • Once the bacon is cooked, use a slotted spoon to transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease.

  • Allow it to cool before crumbling the bacon into small pieces. Set the cooked bacon aside.

3. Sauté the Brussels Sprouts:

  • In the same skillet with the remaining bacon drippings, add the halved Brussels sprouts.

  • Season with a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.

4. Drizzle with Maple Syrup:

  • Sauté the Brussels sprouts until they become tender and slightly caramelized, which should take about 10-12 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.

  • Once the Brussels sprouts are cooked to your desired tenderness, drizzle them with maple syrup. The amount of maple syrup will depend on your preference for sweetness. Start with a couple of tablespoons and adjust to taste.

  • Continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the Brussels sprouts to absorb the delicious maple flavor and develop a slight glaze.

5. Combine with Bacon and Serve:

  • Add the crispy bacon bits back to the skillet with the sautéed Brussels sprouts.

  • Toss everything together to combine the flavors.

  • Transfer the Maple Bacon Brussels Sprouts to a serving dish.

  • Optionally, season with an extra pinch of salt and pepper if needed. Serve hot as a delicious side to complement your main course. Enjoy!
